Ann Keen welcomes Boorman Review progress at health summit
14 May 2009
Ann Keen, Minister responsible for health services, expressed personal support for the progress of the Boorman Review at a health summit in Leeds last week.
The Minister, who was answering questions at NHS Yorkshire and the Humber’s Social Partnership for Improved Health Summit (May 7), pointed out just how important the Boorman Review’s outcomes will be to driving forward investment and progress in staff health and well-being in the NHS.
Ann Keen said: “The NHS has a responsibility to maintain and improve the health and well-being of its staff, and has pledged to do so in its Constitution. There is a direct link between the health and well-being of staff and the quality of care they provide, and it's important that we recognise the detrimental effects staff ill health can have on services.
“Investing in support for NHS health and well-being is good for staff, and good for patients. Steve Boorman's Review will be identifying the areas in which this investment should be targeted, and the practices and policies that work best in safeguarding workforce health and well-being."
Dr Steve Boorman, head of the NHS Health and Well-being Review, was also at the summit where he led a workshop dedicated to discussing barriers and drivers to achieving healthier workplaces and delivering successful initiatives across the service.
