DR STEVE BOORMAN OPENS NEW FITNESS SUITE FOR NHS STAFF AND PATIENTS
8 June 2009
Dr Steve Boorman opened a newly refurbished fitness suite today (Monday June 8) at a North Kensington hospital – offering both staff and patients the opportunity to benefit from improved health and well-being while at work.
The new fitness suite was opened on the same day that new Health Secretary Andy Burnham called for the promotion of physical activity to be embedded in the culture of the NHS, saying that spending money to help people get fit and stay healthy was a long term insurance policy that would help to reduce future NHS spending on obesity related diseases.
Dr Boorman was asked to preside over the opening ceremony of the fitness suite at St Charles’ Hospital in North Kensington, which is directly helping NHS staff to increase their fitness levels and recognises that being healthy is a crucial part of succeeding in delivering high quality care.
Dr Steve Boorman said: “St Charles’ new fitness suite is a fantastic example of what occupational health is all about – enabling staff to stay healthy and well, while also contributing directly to improved patient care.”
Christine Hunter, Head of Services for CWLCS said: “We hope staff will make the most of all the new facilities. Exercise is such an important part of keeping healthy and in rehabilitating effects of ill health. The new fitness suite provides staff with great tools to keep them healthy, happy and here!’’
The fitness suite is one of the many services offered by the Occupational Health Unit at Central West London Community Services (CWLCS).
Some of the new features include:
* State of the art resistance equipment ergonomically designed to work specific muscles through their entire range.
* New Cardiovascular machines that have Cardiotheater linked in to them, which allows each individual user to watch and listen to any one of the 4 42” LCD TV’s in the gym.
*The ability to listen to different radio stations through headphones.
The advisors of the fitness suite are delighted to arrange visits and can be contacted on 020 8962 7695 to arrange an appointment.
